Tammi ran 20 yesterday in preparation for her marathon. Great job! We're both in Cambridge, MA for research so she did it in unfamiliar territory, which makes it all the more of an accomplishment. The first step of a 20-miler is always an intimidating one, all the more so in a place you don't know well. It was cold and windy.
I went 90 minutes yesterday morning before heading to library for research; this morning I ran a little over ten along the Charles.
Great job Tammi! 20 miles on your own in training is almost harder than the full 26.2 when you have other runners and all that enthusiastic support from the spectators.
ReplyDeleteTodd - do you do any runs over 20/21 miles in your run up to a marathon?
I agree - nothing like marathon day!
ReplyDeleteAs for my own mileage, I try to get in at least one 23 mile run, four weeks or so out (ideally). I think the 23-mile run is great physical and mental preparation, but it does some damage, so it's important to plan some easy runs for after. I don't think it's a good idea to jump from 19-20 miles immediately to a 23-mile training run. I think it's important to have a 22-mile run as a step between the 20 miler and the 23 miler.
